Yuka Saso Shines at the U.S. Open
Yuka Saso demonstrated remarkable composure and skill at the Lancaster Country Club, securing her position as this year’s U.S. Open champion. Her performance was nothing short of exceptional, marking her second major title victory.
A Challenging Course Conquered
The Lancaster Country Club posed a formidable challenge for all competitors in the U.S. Open. Among the participants, only two players managed to finish under par. Leading the pack was Japan’s Yuka Saso, who clinched victory with a three-stroke lead over her compatriot Hinako Shibuno, finishing at 4-under-par.
Key Players and Final Round Highlights
Australia’s Minjee Lee, Thailand’s Wichanee Meechai, and American Andrea Lee were in a three-way tie at the start of the final round. However, Saso surged ahead with an impressive four birdies on the back 9. Despite a bogey on the 17th, Saso’s consistent play secured her a comfortable win. Shibuno finished second at 1-under-par, while Americans Ally Ewing and Andrea Lee tied for third at level par.
Saso’s Reaction to Her Victory
Reflecting on her victory, Saso expressed her surprise and delight. "It feels great, I really wanted it. Not just for the second win but to prove something to myself. I haven't won in two and a half or three years. I definitely had doubts about winning again."
Nelly Korda’s Unexpected Setback
Entering the U.S. Open, world No. 1 Nelly Korda was a favorite, fresh off her recent win at the Mizuho Americas Open. However, her hopes were dashed when she found the water multiple times on the par-3 12th hole, resulting in a score of 10. This setback left her two shots shy of the cut, ending her streak of victories.
Korda candidly shared her frustration, "I just didn’t play well today. I hit the rough a lot and a 10 on a par 3 at the U.S. Open is disastrous. Despite playing well on the back 9, it was a bad day at the office."
