Royal Troon, a course cherished by golfers and fans alike, delivered breathtaking moments amidst drizzly weather at this year’s Open Championship. The stormy conditions at Royal Troon last week were reflected in the challenging scores, with only 9 of the 80 players who made the cut finishing the tournament under par.
By the end of Sunday, Xander Schauffele emerged victorious, lifting the coveted Claret Jug. His remarkable 6-under round of 65 on the final day secured him a two-shot lead over Justin Rose and Billy Horschel.
The competition was fiercely unpredictable until the very end. Shane Lowry was in a strong position mid-tournament, but a third-round score of 77 dropped him to 6th place. England’s Dan Brown started strong but faltered in later rounds, finishing at level par. Despite strong final efforts from Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, they couldn't catch Schauffele.
Adding to his recent PGA Championship victory, Xander Schauffele joined Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau in achieving an all-American sweep of this year’s major championships. Schauffele expressed his elation, describing the win as a dream come true.
“Having your name called with Open champion after it is something I have dreamt for a very long time. I watched the highlights of Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson here in 2016 to motivate myself for this week and that paid off pretty nicely. I have been in Scotland for two weeks now and the fans have been amazing and made it feel like a second home.”
The last player to win multiple majors in a single year was Brooks Koepka, who clinched both the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in 2018.
While the men’s majors have concluded for 2024, it's still the perfect time to hit the greens and enjoy playing golf!
