Danny Lee became the ninth first-time winner on the PGA Tour this year with victory at The Greenbrier Classic. It was a hard-earned victory for the New Zealander, who had to overcome David Hearn, Kevin Kisner and Robert Streb in a play-off before the celebrations could begin.
He sank a lengthy birdie on the first play-off hole to eliminate Kisner and Streb - who had to putt from the ninth hole onwards with his wedge after accidentally damaging his putter - leaving only David Hearn to beat. Hearn will be disappointed with the way his challenge ended; he couldn't quite muster up enough on the second play-off hole to apply any real pressure to Lee, who tapped in for par and the win.
Also out on course, Tiger Woods shot his first bogey free round since 2013 in a 3 under 67 that left him 7 under overall; good for T32. It was a marked improvement for the 14 time Major champion after the debacle at The US Open and gives him renewed hope he can challenge at The Open Championship starting a week Thursday.
