Robert MacIntyre Triumphs at the Canadian Open
Following his pivotal role in Team Europe's Ryder Cup victory, Robert MacIntyre has added another accolade to his career by clinching his first PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open.
A Weekend of Exceptional Golf at Hamilton Golf and Country Club
The Canadian Open showcased some outstanding golf, with Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre delivering a standout performance at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club. His skill and determination culminated in him lifting his maiden PGA Tour trophy on Sunday.
MacIntyre’s Path to Victory
MacIntyre’s journey to victory began with a flawless 6-under-par round, positioning him strongly for the rest of the tournament. Despite a challenging third round, where he recorded four bogeys, MacIntyre's resilience shone through as he closed the back 9 with three birdies and an eagle, keeping him in contention.
Final Round and Standings
A solid 2-under final round secured MacIntyre the win with a 16-under-par total. American Benjamin Griffin finished second at 15-under-par, while Frenchman Victor Perez took third place with 14-under-par.
MacIntyre’s Emotional Reaction and Family Support
Having achieved success on the DP World Tour and contributing to Europe’s Ryder Cup victory, MacIntyre was ecstatic about his PGA Tour win. "I’m crying with joy but I’m laughing because I didn’t think it was possible," he said.
Adding to the emotional triumph was MacIntyre’s father, Dougie, who served as his caddie after an emergency call the previous weekend. Dougie’s presence made the victory even more special. "Unbelievable. I’m a grass cutter, not a caddie. Last Saturday night, I was at home wondering if I could leave work. The next morning, I was on a flight out here and wow."
